Chip and Scrap Conveyors
Chip conveyor systems are prevalent on CNC machines either as part of the machine or as an accessory. The primary purpose of a chip conveyor system is to remove scrap, or chips, produced by the cutting tool. Also called a scrap conveyor, a chip conveyor is typically operated using a various conveyor control systems positioned adjacent to the conveyor. Chip conveyors must be extremely reliable, as maintenance downtime and loss of production can be expensive.
What Is a Scrap and Chip Conveyor?
Most manufacturing processes require scrap or chip conveyors to collect metal chips or other waste generated during production. The scrap conveyors are integrated into manufacturing equipment like CNC lathes, mills, stamping presses, and other machines to convey scrap and chips to a waste receptacle.
Functions
Scrap and chip conveyors have the following functions:
- Remove scrap material from the machine tool
- Keep industrial facilities clean, safe, and efficient for workers
- Decrease the risk of metal scraps coming into contact with machinery/motors, which may result in costly repairs
Applications
Metal scrap conveyors can be found in the following applications:
- Machining and Grinding of all types
- Recycling
- Casting
- Forging
- Heavy-duty stamping
- Primary metal Processing Machines
Types of Chip and Scrap Conveyors
MC3 Manufacturing carries several types of conveyors to meet specific needs. Their standard features include:
- Coolant Tanks
- Powder coating
- Style customization
- Support legs
- Overload protection
- Chutes
- Simple to complex Discharge Systems
Here is an overview of the chip and scrap conveyors we offer at MC3 Manufacturing.
Hinged Belt Conveyor
Our hinged belt conveyors process light and medium-weight metal scraps, though they can be customized for large, heavy chips. These conveyors are often gravity-fed and inclined, so metal chips fall down an enclosed chute into a storage bin below. A hinged scrap conveyor is capable of filtering coolant discharged by the machine tool. Our precision pans and innovative steel hinges eliminate gaps between belt segments, making our hinged belt conveyors more reliable and effective than traditional belt conveyors.
Features
- Standard configurations: 1.5” and 2.5” pitch chain (4”, 6” and 9” pitch available for large scrap)
- Heavy gauge construction
- Wear-resistant tracks
- Lubricated, case hardened rollers
- Custom designs available
Options
- Plain, perforated, or pimpled pans
- Wear resistance
- Impact resistance
- Pumps and filtration
- Removable tail wraps
- Cleanout trays
Applications
- Stamping
- Machining and Grinding
- Sawing
- Laser cutting
- Recycling
Magnetic Conveyor
MC3’s magnetic chip conveyors separate ferrous and non-ferrous waste, making it easier to recycle or dispose of different types of metals. These fully enclosed systems protect the chain, magnets, and gear drive from scrap contamination while maintaining a low-profile presence in your facility.
Features
- Ceramic 5 magnets
- Submersible construction
- Oil-filled UHMW tracks
- Spring-loaded take-up
Options
- Ceramic 8 or rare earth magnets
- Manganese slider bed
- Nitronic 60 slider bed
- Rigidized slider bed
- Coolant tank
- Pumps and filtration
Applications
- Stamping
- Machining
- Parts handling
- Sawing (ferrous parts)
- Wet and dry applications
Drag-Out Conveyor
Our drag-out conveyors provide a cost-effective method of removing tiny chips from a machining operation, which includes filtering fine chips from coolants. The bottom of the conveyor’s chamber is abrasion-resistant, so the equipment stays in good condition even while handling abrasive particles.
The drag scraper removes impurities from the coolant, depositing them in the appropriate discharge area. The coolant is delivered to its ultimate destination.
The FilterMaster™ is a conveyor we offer that has two conveyors: a hinged steel belt to handle large, heavy scraps and a lower drag-out system to convey fine chips. The FilterMaster™ has a drum filter equipped with a backwash system that continuously cleans the drum, as well as a viewing window and coolant system.
